Clarishot ("Clarishot," "we," "our," or "us") provides a browser extension that helps you create polished screenshots and PDFs of AI conversations on supported AI chat platforms.
This Privacy Policy explains how Clarishot handles information when you use the Clarishot browser extension and the Clarishot website.
Data controller and contact
Clarishot is operated by an independent developer. Clarishot acts as the data controller for personal information received through the Clarishot website, support email, and related communications. You can reach the controller at support@clarishot.ai.
The Clarishot extension is designed to process captures locally in your browser. We do not receive your AI conversations, prompts, responses, screenshots, or PDFs through the extension.
Short version
Clarishot is designed to run locally in your browser.
- The extension does not require an account.
- The extension does not upload your AI conversations, screenshots, or PDFs to Clarishot servers.
- The extension does not run analytics, telemetry, advertising trackers, or behavioral advertising.
- The extension does not sell your data.
- The extension creates captures only when you choose to use a Clarishot capture control.
What Clarishot can access
To provide its capture features, the extension can access the pages where it runs and the content you choose to capture. All of this access and processing happens locally in your browser. Other than requests to servers the page itself already references (described in "How captures are created"), the extension does not transmit page content, captures, or any other permission-derived data off your device — and nothing is ever sent to Clarishot or to any data-collecting third party.
At launch, Clarishot is designed for supported AI chat websites such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. The extension adds capture controls to those pages, reads the relevant page content and layout, captures the visible tab when needed, and generates a screenshot or PDF locally in your browser.
The Chrome Web Store may show a broad permission warning because Chrome's visible-tab screenshot capability requires a broad host permission to function. Clarishot requests this permission solely to capture the visible tab when you start a capture. Clarishot's user-facing capture controls are designed to appear and operate only on supported AI chat pages, and a capture only runs when you initiate it.
Clarishot may handle:
- AI conversation content visible on supported pages, including prompts, responses, code blocks, tables, images, diagrams, artifacts, and other page content you choose to capture.
- Page layout, dimensions, scroll position, theme, and rendering details needed to create an accurate capture.
- The active visible tab screenshot data needed to assemble a selected capture.
- Generated output, such as a PNG copied to your clipboard or a PDF saved through your browser.
- Temporary extension state needed to run the feature, such as whether a capture is in progress. Today this state is held only in memory and clears when the page closes. If a future version stores small, non-content settings on your device (for example, a conversation's approximate message count) to improve the interface, that data will stay on your device and will never be transmitted.
Clarishot does not need your AI platform password, payment details, authentication cookies, or private account settings to provide its capture features.
What Clarishot does not receive or store
The Clarishot extension can handle page content locally to create the capture you request. It does not send to Clarishot, store on Clarishot servers, sell, or use for unrelated purposes:
- Your AI conversations.
- Your prompts or AI responses.
- Your screenshots or PDFs.
- Your browsing history.
- Your AI platform account details.
- Your AI platform account name, email address, or other account profile information.
- Analytics or telemetry about your extension usage.
- Advertising identifiers or data for personalized, retargeted, or interest-based ads.
The current Clarishot extension does not send your captures to a Clarishot backend service.
How captures are created
Clarishot creates captures locally in your browser. Depending on the content and size of the capture, Clarishot may:
- Copy a generated PNG image to your clipboard.
- Save a generated PDF through your browser's download flow.
To render a faithful capture, Clarishot may cause assets the page itself already references — such as icons and images — to load, and may request icon files from the page's own website or from the AI platform's asset servers (for example, the static and content servers used by ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini). These requests go to servers the page already references, never to a Clarishot server. They carry no Clarishot account or tracking identifiers and do not send your conversation content, prompts, responses, screenshots, or PDFs.
Clipboard writes and PDF saves are tied to user-triggered capture actions. After a capture is copied to your clipboard or saved to your device, you control where it goes next.
Website and support email
If you visit clarishot.ai, Cloudflare — which hosts and delivers the site — processes standard technical information needed to serve and secure it, such as your IP address, browser user agent, requested pages, and timestamps. Cloudflare processes this information on our behalf as a service provider (a "processor" under data protection law). Website measurement is described below.
If you email Clarishot for support, Clarishot will receive your email address and the contents of your message. Clarishot uses that information to respond, investigate bugs, improve the product, and keep appropriate support records.
Please avoid sending sensitive conversation content in support emails unless it is necessary for support and you are comfortable sharing it.
How information is used
Clarishot uses information only as needed to:
- Provide the capture features you request.
- Copy generated images to your clipboard or save generated PDFs locally.
- Keep the extension stable and secure.
- Understand aggregate traffic to the Clarishot website through server-side measurement (described below).
- Respond to support requests.
- Comply with applicable law and Chrome Web Store requirements.
Clarishot does not use your AI conversations, screenshots, PDFs, or browsing activity for advertising, profiling, model training, or resale.
Where EU/UK data protection law applies, our legal bases are: (a) for operating, securing, and measuring traffic to the website (server logs and server-side analytics) — our legitimate interests in running and protecting the site; (b) for support email — our legitimate interest in responding to you and keeping appropriate support records, or, where your request relates to your use of Clarishot, taking steps at your request; and (c) where we must retain or disclose information to meet a legal obligation — compliance with that obligation. We do not rely on consent for any current processing.
In the categories used by US state privacy laws, the only personal information Clarishot collects is: identifiers (your email address, if you email support) and internet or other electronic network activity information (standard web-request data such as IP address and browser user agent, processed by our website host when you visit clarishot.ai). We collect it directly from you, use it only for the purposes above, and disclose it only to the service providers described in the Sharing section.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure
Clarishot's single purpose is to capture polished screenshots and PDFs of AI conversations. Clarishot's use of information received from Chrome extension permissions is limited to providing and improving that user-facing capture feature. Information the extension handles to create a capture (such as AI conversation content, page layout, and visible-tab screenshot data) is processed locally in your browser and is not transferred to Clarishot or to third parties; the only network requests a capture makes are to servers the page itself already references, as described in "How captures are created." Clarishot does not use or transfer information received from Chrome extension permissions for personalized advertising, retargeting, interest-based advertising, data brokerage, or any purpose unrelated to providing the capture feature. The service-provider and business-transfer disclosures in the Sharing section concern website and support-email information, not content the extension handles.
No one at Clarishot reads or has access to the AI conversation content, page content, or captures the extension handles, because that content never leaves your device and there is no Clarishot backend that receives it.
Clarishot's use and transfer of information received from Chrome extension permissions adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Third-party AI platforms
Clarishot works on third-party AI chat platforms. Those platforms are operated by their own providers and are governed by their own privacy policies and terms. Clarishot does not control how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or other third-party services collect or process information when you use their websites.
Retention
The Clarishot extension does not retain your AI conversations, screenshots, or PDFs on Clarishot servers.
Generated captures may remain in your clipboard, downloads folder, file system, browser memory, or any app where you paste or share them. You control those copies.
Support emails may be retained for as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain records, improve the product, resolve disputes, or comply with legal obligations.
Website server logs are processed by Cloudflare, our website host, and retained for the limited periods described in Cloudflare's privacy documentation. We use them only for operating, securing, and debugging the website and for the aggregate traffic measurement described below.
Automated decision-making and profiling
Clarishot does not use personal information for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
International users and transfers
Clarishot may be used by people in different countries. Our service providers — including Cloudflare, which hosts the website — process website and support-email information in the United States and other countries, which may be outside your own. For transfers from the EU, UK, or EEA, we rely on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework (including its UK Extension) where the provider is certified, and otherwise on Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms. More information about these safeguards is available on request (see Contact below).
Privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information. You may also have the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
You can exercise privacy rights by emailing support@clarishot.ai. Because the extension does not send your captures or AI conversations to us, we generally cannot access, correct, export, or delete that local capture content for you. You control local copies on your own device, clipboard, downloads folder, and apps where you paste or share captures.
Where applicable, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Clarishot will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.
Security
Clarishot is designed to minimize data exposure by processing captures locally in your browser, and the extension is not built around a Clarishot server upload pipeline for your captures. No method of software operation, local processing, storage, or transmission is perfectly secure, but Clarishot is built around collecting as little information as possible.
If we become aware of a security incident affecting personal information we receive, we will take appropriate steps to investigate, remediate, and notify affected users or authorities where required by law.
Your choices
You can:
- Stop using Clarishot at any time.
- Uninstall the extension through your browser's extension settings.
- Delete local files you saved from Clarishot.
- Clear clipboard contents by copying something else.
- Contact us with support or privacy questions (see Contact below).
Children
Clarishot is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or any higher minimum age that applies where you live). Clarishot does not knowingly receive or store personal information from children below that age. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to Clarishot (for example, by emailing support), contact us (see Contact below) and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
Clarishot may update this Privacy Policy as the product changes or as legal, operational, or Chrome Web Store requirements change. If the changes are material, Clarishot will update the "Last updated" date and may provide additional notice where appropriate.
